The no-AI hiring policy
Every employer on HumanFirstJobs promises that a person, not AI, reviews every application and conducts every interview. Applicants who meet AI in hiring can report it, and three counted reports within 90 days suspend the employer.
What employers may not do
Employers may not use AI or automated decision systems to judge applicants, on or off HumanFirstJobs:
- Screening, scoring, ranking or rejecting resumes and applications automatically, including AI features inside applicant tracking systems
- Chatbot or voice-bot screening calls and questionnaires
- Interviews run or scored by AI, including one-way video interviews that software scores
- Assessments graded or proctored by AI
- AI-written messages that pretend to be a person in hiring conversations
Employers may use scheduling tools, applicant tracking systems that only store and organize applications, and writing tools for their own job descriptions.
How employers agree to it
Employers accept the rule when they sign up, at every checkout, and again on every job they publish. Each job page shows the name and title of the person who reads applications.
How reporting works
Anyone who applied to a job through HumanFirstJobs can report the employer, starting 24 hours after applying. Each applicant reports a company once. Reports can include screenshots or emails as evidence. The employer is never told who reported them.
| Counted reports in 90 days | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | The employer is warned and asked to check its hiring tools |
| 2 | The employer is flagged and its new jobs wait for review |
| 3 | The employer is suspended: its jobs come down |
| Any after reinstatement | The employer is banned permanently |
A person reviews every report and can dismiss unfounded ones, which undoes their effect.
Appeals
A suspended employer can appeal once, within 14 days. A person reviews every appeal. If it is upheld, the employer's jobs return with the days they had left and its credits are restored.
Public record
We publish monthly enforcement numbers in the transparency report. We never publish the names of reported or suspended employers.
